Gennaio

There was coverage of technical matters at the top 100cc events. Originally conceived by Neil Hann, 100 UK (Formula TKM), using the TKM BT82 motor, was announced by the RACMSA as the new entry level 100cc class. No British Championship was scheduled for 1998 and it was suggested that series racing shouldn't be allowed. We were shown over Dartford Karting's new 'Supertune' premises.

Febbraio

Cover photo: Adrian Coles, DAP/DAP, in Senior Britain. Deavinsons showed us their new Sprint CIK-2 chassis. After a lengthy gestation the 125cc with gearbox TKM KW125 motor saw the light of day. We reviewed the Formula E technicalities at the World Championships.

Marzo

Cover photo: Craig Booth at Tilbury, SuperDart/Sirio. The latest version of the Rotax 250cc twin was announced as was a slide carb made by South West Karting. There were new karts revealed from Gillard, Wright, DAP, SuperDart and TKM. Daytona was as spectacular as ever.

Aprile

Cover photos: The International Kart Show and GP winner Phil Featherstone, Kobra Villiers. Charles Prior took over ownership of the 100cc EME motor. The Kart Show was a great success. The technical regulations for the TKM BT82 powered class UK were released.

Maggio

Cover photo: Scenes from Cadwell and Daytona. We gave details of how to check and maintain the BT82 engine for class 100 UK that commenced on May 1st. Jan Magnussen won Junior Int. at Oran Park in Australia and Mike Mills won at Ahmadi in Kuwait.

Giugno

Cover photos: Rennison, Hogben, Purkis and Murrell. A visit to the USSR by Mr Buser brought the startling news that they had 110,000 karters. Tillotson revealed their mods to the latest HL-334A carb. Roger Goff, on an Anderson, won Formula E at Cadwell Park, Snetterton and Silverstone.

Luglio

Cover photos: Bob Kennings in 250 Super and, at Rye House, Andrew Hawkes in Cadet. At the Euro Champs round at Magione, Italy, Munkholm won 100cc and Simoni won 135cc with Zanardi 6th.The RACMSA moved from Belgrave Square to Colnbrook, near Heathrow.

Agosto

Cover photo: Gert Munkholm PCR/PCR. Gary Chapman won the RAC Britain Champs for the 3rd year running. The RAC organised a noise test day at Clay Pigeon. Webster and Shaw had RAC S/C class wins whilst Eric Gassin, Nissag - Rotax, won the Donington round of the F.E. Euro Champs.

Settembre

Cover photos: G.Wallace and I.Woodcock. Malandrucco won the World Junior Cup while in the Time Trials Fisichella was fastest, Verstappen 6th and Franchitti 20th. The Euro Champs round winner at Genk was Sandro Zani in Super Hundred and Mike Wilson in Formula K.

Ottobre

Cover photos: Petersen and Grondstra (FE World champs round winner), and Webster (250 Nat. winner) at the Silverstone GP which had 343 entries. Graeme Melville beat the likes of Dario Franchitti, Jamie Spence and Ralph Firman to win the RAC Junior Brit. champs at Clay Pigeon.

Novembre

The cover photo showed Collard, Kali Rotax, winning the reinstated, after a gap of 7 years, 100cc World Champs at Laval. Mike Wilson took his 5th World 135cc title, also on a Kali. The 250 World Champs final round was at Le Mans and was won by Gassin with the title going to Poul Petersen.

Dicembre

Cover photo: Mike Wilson, Formula K World Champion. The 250 Nat. Long Circuit champ winner was Derek Rodgers after a tie-breaker was used. The Langbaurgh circuit was opened at Tees-side. Capstick, Weatherley, Chapman and Rees and were the Super One Series champions.
